28 December 2017

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO NON-U.S. SHOCK CINEMA READERS:

We just learned that the United States Post Office will soon be drastically changing and raising their International Mailing rates. On January 21, 2018, they will be eliminating the International First-Class rate for large envelopes (or "flats") containing magazines, books, CDs, DVDs, artwork, or any type of purchased goods. Instead, these items must now be shipped using their First-Class Package International Service, which is a hell of a lot more expensive.

One packaged issue of SHOCK CINEMA weighs just under 8 ounces:

An issue going to the UK, Europe, Australia, etc. currently costs $8.85 to mail. After January 21, the postage will be $14.00.

Even worse, mailing a single issue to our Canadian readers will rise from $3.75 to $10.00! Yes, that's a 166% postage increase.

On top of that, nobody at our local (normally highly-competent) post office was able to offer any concrete answers about these upcoming changes. For example, if you go onto the USPS's postage calculator, it doesn't even have an option to send oversized envelopes to other countries, post January 21 -- unless you use one of their pricey Flat-Rate Priority Mail envelopes ($24.95 to Canada, $34.25 to the rest of the world). So it's all really fucking confusing.

Unfortunately, if these new prices are correct, it will be financially untenable to continue shipping individual copies of SHOCK CINEMA Magazine to our Canadian and Overseas subscribers... So until everything shakes out in a few weeks, we are suspending all new non-U.S. subscriptions. And individual overseas issues will only be available for purchase at the SC website for ONE more week. If you want to order an issue, please do it NOW!

Rest assured, whatever happens, all foreign subscribers will be fully compensated for their remaining issues. And since most of our non-U.S. readers purchase SHOCK CINEMA via PayPal, the refund process shouldn't be too difficult. In addition, if you currently have a Canadian or Overseas subscription, feel free to contact me at shockcinemamag@aol.com, so I can verify your current email info.

Thankfully, this change will NOT affect our overseas wholesalers, since Flat-Rate Priority Mail boxes are used for those shipments. Also, the International postage costs for sending multiple issues (3 or more) won't change that much, so any overseas readers looking to buy assorted new/back issues can email me for a price quote and/or PayPal invoice.

In the meantime, Canadian readers can always pick up copies of the newest SC at their nearest Chapters/Indigo/Coles bookstores. And folks in Europe can purchase issues through our longtime UK supporters, FAB Press (www.fabpress.com) and Strange Vice (www.strangevice.co.uk).

I'll keep you posted...
